Parrot Head Couple Parrot Heads In Paradise (PHIP)/The Meeting of the Minds (MOTM) is the annual gathering of the dedicated Jimmy Buffett fan club. The Casa Marina in Key West, Florida is the headquarters for the majority of the week’s scheduled events. PHIP hosted events at the Casa Marina require Parrot Head credentials for admittance. Island music is undoubtedly the focus for the five day MOTM. Artists including the Coral Reefer Band, Jim Morris, Sunny Jim, Tropical Soul and Scott Kirby play throughout the week. Occasionally, even Jimmy Buffett himself will make a special appearance as he did in 2004.

For those who do not have Parrot Head credentials, there are still great events that you can experience during that week. There are scheduled events by your favorite musicians at the local bars including Hogs Breath Saloon, Schooner Wharf Bar, and the Pier House. There is also one large main stage show at the end of the week. In 2004, they closed down Duval Street, erected a stage, and a few thousand Parrot Heads gathered to eat, drink, dance, and be merry to the sounds of Tropical Soul, Mac McAnally, and Club Trini. Margaritaville Tequila and Corona beer were the sponsors and the drinks were bountiful. The spirited Parrot Head congregation sang to the island music and reached into the air for dozens of Mardi Gras beads that were thrown into the lively crowd. The five day MOTM celebration climaxes on Sunday at the Schooner Wharf Bar for the “No Flight Out” Party.

Captain’s Tip : For those who can’t make it to the Key West MOTM don’t worry, it’s no problem mon. Radio Margaritaville broadcasts live on-line from the convention. Also, featured artists can be seen at various live web-cams.

WHAT IS A PARROT HEAD?
Parrot Head Judy Parrot Heads are usually easy to identify in the wild. Characteristically they don brightly colored aloha shirts, feathers, beads, coconut bras, flashing pennants, and/or sunglasses. Over many years as the Parrot Head has evolved, many within the species have grow a dorsal “fin” or even a developed a “cheeseburger” on their head. The Parrot Head genus appears to be a thirsty species frequently requiring margaritas, rum drinks, beer and seafood to stay hydrated and well nourished.
